Sightseeing in Nuevo Vallarta

Opinions and questions on Nuevo Vallarta day trips, snorkling trips, eco-tours, etc.

Marietas Islands

You were right! It was the highlight of the trip BY FAR!
What a day we had!!!! We did a catamaran trip to Marietass Islands on a catamaaran to snorkel and see wild Dolphins. You can explore rocky caverns and archways by Kayak, snorkel or scuba dive.

We saw giant manta rays, and sea turtles and probably 15 whales (not while we were swimming thank God!).

We had lunch on the catamaran and then they took us to a wonderful sandy beach to spend the afternoon.

Nothing like it!

Daytrip to San Sebastian

I guess this would not appeal to everyone one, but I wanted to share the experience my wife and I had on a tour to San Sebastian. It is an example of the traditional ways of living and working in a remote Mexican mountain village. We had lunch and plenty of bottled water included.

We thought San Sebastian was like living museum untouched by time.

There is a allot of walking so wear comfortable shoes - it's about a 7 hour excursion.

Swim with the dolphins in Nuevo Vallarta

"Dolphin Adventure" centers in Nuevo Vallarta, excursion operator Vallarta Adventures offers one of Mexico’s premier dolphin encounter programs. The centers host dolphin educational and swim programs for all ages. There’s even a "Trainer for a Day" experience for guests 10 and older. This is also the departure point for Vallarta Adventures’ many eco-tour outings (details at www.vallartaadventures.com). this is one of Mexico’s most reputable excursion operators.

Las Caletas

When you're in either Vallarta or Nayarit, the Las Caletas excursion offers a full days activity. For comparison's sake, think of the "private island" excursions from the cruise lines. However, instead of sharing the space with 1000-1200 others, the crowd as of this review was less that 1/10 that. A full buffet of hot and cold dishes provide a variety of options for lunch. Many full-bars scattered throughout the facility make getting drinks very easy (as well as the catamaran ride both there and back). There are plenty of places to get bottled water as well. To complement the (free) snorkling and kayak lessons, there is a guided nature walk as well as some hosted interaction with baby monkeys and Macaws in the sancuary section. Superior's visit in January should offer some quality whale-watching opportunities both from the 45-60 minute cruise and from the beach at Las Caletas. Optional activities include scuba lessons, interaction with sea lions, and a tranquil, hilltop spa.

Sayulita Beach

Sayulita feels worlds away from Puerto Vallarta, and is a great daytrip option just 25 km northwest of Nuevo Vallarta. Known for decades as a top surf spot and relaxed seaside village, Sayulita (pronounced sigh-u-LEE-tah) has somehow survived a recent wave of second-home real estate development and preserved its eclectic and easy-going ambiance.

Sitting around an arch of golden sand with a gentle offshore surf break, Sayulita exudes the simple pleasures of coastal Mexico. There are two small bays here, bisected by a rocky outcropping with good surf conditions. Hillside homes dominate the skyline. Surfers, beach lovers, Huichol Indians, and a growing number of North Americans mingle and
relax beneath a canopy of swaying palms.

Water lovers can partake in some excellent ocean swimming, bodysurfing, surfing (one of Mexico’s best spots), and return to savor open-air restaurants, hang out at the simple seaside plaza, and explore growing number of shops, bars, and convenience stores. Top dining choices include Don Pedro’s, El T gre, L’Ult ma Sp agg a (Italian), or Roll e’s (tops
for breakfast). You can even sign up for a surfing lesson, on the spot! Overnight lodging here is limited to some basic guesthouses, and private home rentals (check the web).

Canopy tour in Nuevo Vallarta

What a great time we had - - - whatever you do don't miss the chance to swing from treetop to treetop!!! There are hanging bridges built into the treetops and the feeling is so exciting as you zip along. We were about 90 feet above the forest floor. It was so cool to see the wild orchids, wild birds and reptiles. This is an excursion not to be missed.

Rhythms of the night

My friends and I did the Rhythm of the Night tour and it was so amazing. We sailed at sunset across Banderas Bay to the isolated cove of Las Caletas. While it was dark when we arrived, there were torchlights to guide us. There was a wonderful grilled dinner and open bar awaiting our arrival. The sitting was so mystical. While we were having our coffee and desert, there were native drums summoning us to an outdoor amphitheater. The performance was so worth it.
